CEO to CEO’s Perspective on Emerging Midsized Companies
Our last research project culminated in publishing Mighty Midsized Companies: How Leaders Overcome 7 Silent Growth Killers. We based the book on research findings from over 100 interviews.
Our Perspective About Emerging Midsized Companies:
Emerging midsized companies ($10 million to $150 million revenues) are full of owners, professionals, families and entrepreneurs who have never been groomed by corporate America. They’ve never been forced to conform to corporate etiquette to survive or rise to the top. Some innovated their way into midsized, some were subject matter experts or credential professionals who got drafted into management. Others were born into a family business.
In fact, many of these companies are full of characters who never wanted to be “buttoned down.” Who may not have the ability to act like a corporate executive. Who might never be selected by a private equity firm to be the CEO. But there they are, responsible for making a company run better. They are eager to succeed, even though many will never be “perfect” executives or exemplify best practices. They need to know what the next best step for them should be.
While we are experts in the established best practices for all companies in all nine growth drivers, CEO to CEO is different in that we research and understand the unique challenges that emerging midsized companies face, and prescribe unique solutions tailored to our client. We accept the real world and search for how “non-corporate” leaders of midsized companies are more likely to accept advice when they won’t or can’t fully execute the established best practices. How they can help themselves and their company despite falling short of ideal. How they can take smaller steps toward “fixing their company” if they can’t/won’t tolerate going full speed to being “fixed.”
