How to Support Your Clients’ Utilization of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Measuring performance and activities within a business is an incredibly powerful tool to improve results, but most small and midsized companies don’t even get started. They need help selecting the right KPIs, doing the calculations, setting targets for each KPI at the beginning of the year, interpreting their results, then taking action to improve. Some KPIs find their data on the financials which are already in the hands of the accountant. Just a few more steps for their CPA to create a dashboard and facilitate a discussion. For some companies, this in itself is a powerful step forward.
Yet important metrics include other data sources like the CRM and other systems that manage production of work. These include leading indicators and measures of the activities that produce results.
Learn the fundamentals of creating not only company level KPIs, but also KPIs for individual leaders. We’ll share our experience coaching companies through development of thousands of KPIs in all types of companies: professional services, manufacturers, distributors, refineries, construction, agriculture and many more.
Key takeaways:
- When & how to measure activities vs. results.
- How to measure when there isn’t automated data capture.
- How to measure subjective performance.
- Using the balanced scorecard approach to create sustainable sets of goals.
- The right way to follow up on KPIs to keep the teams focused on the right things.
