Why a Loyal CEO Can be Deadly

Being a loyal CEO can be deadly. But isn’t loyalty good? Admirable? Yes, but not always. Not when the CEO is loyal to people who aren’t loyal to the company.

As CEOs, most of us have struggled with earned loyalty versus misplaced loyalty. I thought this was a big enough issue to put in an international venue, and my editor at Forbes.com agreed. He took the article I had titled, “Why a Loyal CEO Can be Deadly”, and published it yesterday as, “Loyalty to your Underlings Can Be a Terrible Thing”.
